Tim Guyer
Senior Associate
Tim specialises in dispute resolution and has particular experience advising on charterparty, bill of lading, and sale contract claims, as well as disputes concerning general average, collisions and other casualty related areas. He acts for owners, charterers, traders and insurers.
He has experience in the English Courts and London Arbitration and has advised on procedural matters such as freezing orders and stakeholder proceedings.
Before joining Preston Turnbull, Tim trained and qualified at a leading shipping law firm in the City, where he remained for a further 5 years. He also spent 10 months on secondment at an International Group P&I Club working with a wide cross-section of Members and previously had a shorter secondment working in the charterers and traders team at another International Group P&I Club. These placements have helped him develop a commercial and pragmatic approach to handling claims.
Recent Experience:
- Advising a shipowner regarding alleged defaults under a ship finance contract.
- Acting for the sellers of a vessel concerning the alleged termination of a MOA.
- Acting for the owners of a vessel regarding off-hire disputes and the delivery of cargo.
- Acting for charterers regarding a demurrage dispute in London Arbitration arising out of delays at the loadport.
