Alan is a specialist in shipping and trade law. Alan has spent almost 15 years working in-house with blue-chip corporates in London and Scandinavia in the transport, shipping and commodities sectors prior to which he trained and worked for leading international law firms in London. Alan has built and led international teams advising on global and cross-border disputes, casualty and incident management, marine insurance and strategic risk management.
Alan advises shipowners, charterers, traders, insurers and P&I Clubs on transactional matters and litigation in the English and overseas courts and in both domestic and international arbitration. Alan’s experience gives an appreciation for, and insight into, the commercial and operational drivers affecting his clients. He combines legal advice with pragmatic guidance aiming for efficient and commercially viable outcomes.
Alan is a strong believer in early intervention to avoid or mitigate the effects of disputes, in particular through the use of mediation. Alan is an accredited mediator and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
Alan is based in Oslo and has a focus on clients in Scandinavia.
