Marianthi Koutri

Associate

Marianthi’s practice focuses on complex contentious and non-contentious matters within the shipping and insurance sectors.

With a strong international perspective, she advises a broad range of clients, including shipowners, ship managers, charterers, cargo interests, shipyards, and H&M, P&I, war risk and cargo insurers. Her work covers contentious proceedings (before the English courts and in international arbitrations and mediations), contract negotiation and drafting, as well as dispute‑avoidance strategies.

Combining strong academic grounding with specialist practical experience, Marianthi approaches issues from both a legal and commercial perspective to deliver effective, pragmatic solutions.

Her experience spans a wide variety of wet and dry shipping matters, including high-profile wreck removals, general average, charterparty and bill of lading disputes, laytime and demurrage, cargo claims, collisions, bunker disputes and complex insurance coverage issues. She has a particular interest in maritime decarbonisation and supports clients in navigating the challenges of the energy transition through regulatory advice and contractual solutions.

Prior to joining Preston Turnbull, Marianthi trained and practised as a solicitor at a global law firm in London, including a secondment to the firm's Singapore office. She also gained valuable commercial insight into the shipping market during her secondment to the in-house legal team of a leading shipping company, where she assisted with vessel sale and purchase transactions and general corporate matters.

Marianthi holds a law degree from the University of Athens and an LL.M. in Commercial Law from the University of Cambridge. While qualified and practising in England and Wales, she is also qualified as a lawyer in Greece. Marianthi is a native Greek speaker, fluent in English, and proficient in Spanish and French.
